Privacy Policy

Your templates stay on your Mac - always

Effective Date: January 2026
Last Updated: January 2026

1. Introduction

Prefab is designed with privacy as a core principle. Your templates, files, and project structures are yours alone. This privacy policy explains how your information is handled.

2. Privacy Commitment

Your data never leaves your device. Prefab does not collect, store, or transmit your personal information, templates, or file contents to external servers. Everything stays on your Mac.

3. Information Stored Locally

3.1 Template Data

Prefab stores the following data locally on your Mac:

  • Your template library: Folder structures, file contents, placeholder configurations, and automation actions
  • Preferences: Theme settings, author name, date format, default editor
  • Folder access bookmarks: Security-scoped bookmarks for folders you've granted access to (required by macOS sandboxing)
  • Window state: Size, position, and sidebar preferences

3.2 File System Access

Prefab requires access to folders where you deploy templates. macOS will prompt you to grant access, and Prefab stores security-scoped bookmarks to remember your choices. You can revoke access at any time in Prefab's settings or by removing the app.

3.3 What I Don't Collect

I do not collect or have access to:

  • Your template contents or file structures
  • Personal information (beyond what you enter as placeholder defaults)
  • Usage analytics, telemetry, or crash reports
  • Files outside folders you explicitly grant access to
  • Network activity or any data from other applications

4. Data Storage and Security

Local Storage: Template data is stored in your Application Support folder, protected by macOS file system permissions and any FileVault encryption you have enabled.

Sandboxed: Prefab runs in a macOS sandbox, meaning it can only access files and folders you explicitly grant permission to.

No Cloud Sync: Prefab does not use iCloud or any cloud services. Your templates remain on your local machine only.

No Network Requests: Prefab does not require an internet connection and makes no network requests.

5. Post-Creation Actions

If you configure terminal commands as post-creation actions, those commands run locally on your Mac using your user permissions. Prefab does not log, transmit, or store the output of these commands beyond displaying them to you.

6. Data Sharing

Zero Data Sharing: Since I don't collect any data, there's nothing to share. I do not share, sell, or transmit any information to:

  • Advertising networks
  • Analytics services
  • Marketing companies
  • Data brokers
  • Any third parties

7. Your Privacy Controls

You have complete control:

  • Folder Access: Manage which folders Prefab can access in Settings → Permissions
  • Export Templates: Export your templates to share or back up
  • Delete Data: Removing Prefab removes all associated data from your Mac

8. Children's Privacy

Prefab does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

9. Changes to This Policy

I may update this privacy policy to reflect changes in practices or features. Updates will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date.
