Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading and using Prefab, you agree to these terms of service. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

2. What Prefab Does

Prefab is a macOS application that creates folders and files on your computer based on templates you define. When you deploy a template, Prefab:

  • Creates folders and files in locations you specify
  • Substitutes placeholder values you provide into folder names, file names, and file contents
  • Optionally executes terminal commands or opens applications you configure
  • Applies folder colors and icons where supported by macOS

3. License

Prefab grants you a personal, non-transferable license to use the application on your Mac devices. This license does not include the right to modify, reverse-engineer, distribute, or create derivative works of the software.

4. System Requirements

Prefab requires macOS 26.0 (Tahoe) or later.

5. Your Responsibilities

You are responsible for:

  • Template content: The folder structures, files, and file contents you create in your templates
  • Placeholder values: The values you enter when deploying templates
  • Terminal commands: Any commands you configure as post-creation actions - these run with your user permissions
  • Deployment locations: Choosing appropriate destinations for your deployed templates
  • Backups: Maintaining backups of important files and templates

6. File System Operations

Prefab creates files and folders on your computer. While Prefab is designed to operate safely and will warn before overwriting existing files, you should always verify deployment locations and maintain backups of important data. I am not responsible for any data loss resulting from template deployment.

7. Terminal Commands

Post-creation actions can execute terminal commands on your system. These commands run with your user permissions and can perform any action you could perform in Terminal. You are solely responsible for the commands you configure. Only use commands you understand and trust.

8. Data Ownership

You own all your data. Your templates, configurations, and any files created by Prefab belong to you. They are stored locally on your Mac, and I claim no rights to your content.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

Prefab is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. While I strive to provide a reliable application, I cannot guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. I do not warrant that Prefab will meet your specific requirements or that any errors will be corrected.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, I shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages resulting from your use of or inability to use Prefab. This includes, but is not limited to, damages for loss of data, loss of profits, or business interruption.

11. Updates

I may release updates to fix bugs, add features, or improve performance. If you obtained Prefab from the Mac App Store, updates are delivered through the App Store according to your preferences. Direct downloads may include an in-app update mechanism.

12. Termination

You may stop using Prefab at any time by uninstalling it. I reserve the right to discontinue Prefab or modify these terms at any time.

13. Changes to Terms

I may update these terms occasionally. Significant changes will be communicated through the app or website. Continued use of Prefab after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.

14. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
